چکیده

Patients who have recently experienced highintensity blasts are more likely to perform abnormally on tests developed to be sensitive to deficits of central auditory processing than were ageand hearing-matched individuals without blast exposures. Here, a group of 59 participants was recruited, 30 of whom were exposed to high-intensity blasts between 4 and 11 yr prior to testing and did not participate in the previous study, along with 29 controls similar in age and hearing thresholds to the blast group. All were tested on a set of behavioral tests that were used in the previous study. Abnormal performance was measured with reference both to published normative data and to the average performance of the control group. Members of the blast-exposed group were again found to be significantly more likely to perform in the abnormal range than were the members of the control group. Because the patients in this study were tested a minimum of 4 yr after blast exposure, these results suggest that for some of those exposed, problems processing auditory information may be a chronic effect of blast exposure even in the absence of significant peripheral hearing loss.

Auditory Lateralization Ability in Children with (Central) Auditory Processing Disorder

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to assess the auditory lateralization ability in children with (central) auditory processing disorder. Methods: Participants were divided in two groups: 15 children with Central Auditory Processing Disorder (8-10 years) and 80 normal children (8-11 years) from both genders with pure-tone air-conduction thresholds better than 20 dB HL bilaterally a...

Performance on tests of central auditory processing by individuals exposed to high-intensity blasts.

Thirty-six blast-exposed patients and twenty-nine non-blast-exposed control subjects were tested on a battery of behavioral and electrophysiological tests that have been shown to be sensitive to central auditory processing deficits. Abnormal performance among the blast-exposed patients was assessed with reference to normative values established as the mean performance on each test by the contro...

سایکوآکوستیک و درک گفتار در افراد مبتلا به نوروپاتی شنوایی و افراد طبیعی

Background: The main result of hearing impairment is reduction of speech perception. Patient with auditory neuropathy can hear but they can not understand. Their difficulties have been traced to timing related deficits, revealing the importance of the neural encoding of timing cues for understanding speech. Objective: In the present study psychoacoustic perception (minimal noticeable differen...

Comparing auditory sustained attention in children with auditory processing disorder and normal children

Introduction: Auditory processing disorder (APD) is a type of abnormal perceptual processing of auditory information within the central auditory nervous system that could be influenced by cognitive factors, such as attention. Attention is one of most important cognitive functions in the development of learning in children, so it is important to recognize and evaluate a variety of attention defi...

Effects of Exposure to Impact Noise on the Hearing of Armed Forces and Evaluation of the Methods to Control and Decrease its Consequences: A Review Study

Background and Aim: Exposure to impact noise (short-term, high intensity) higher than permitted levels results in injury to the auditory system. Armed forces are one of the occupational groups exposed to these types of noises resulting from gunshots. In this study, relevant articles and research on the adverse effects of impact noise, hearing loss, and tinnitus in armed forces and effective con...
